Costa Rica Golfing Tips

1- Check with your airlines to see if they charge excess baggage fees for golf clubs. And check how much? Since most golf facilities offer quality rental equipment you may find it feasible to leave your clubs at home

2- It is relatively easy to book tee times on golf courses in Costa Rica contact me at your leisure for your tee times

3- If your not staying at a golf resort with golf facilities, the least expensive form of transportation to the golf course is by a rental car, I can provide you with a comfortable van

4- Now in Costa Rica it is common to experience rainfall (what did you expect Costa Rica is a tropical climate country) in the late afternoon or evening during our “green season’’ early in the morning is best

Green Season is from mid –May to mid-November, but the months of July and August see less rain and generally are beautiful with mild temperatures, Apply sun block before you leave for the golf course not at the first tee especially between 1:00 pm; and 3:00 pm wear a baseball cap

5- Wildlife sensitive areas are common in Costa Rica; however players signage for safety

6- Most golf courses have dress codes that require golf shirts with collars for men and proper attire t-shirts bathing suites and short shorts are not permitted

7- The saying “trees are 90% air” does not apply to the dense tropical rainforest trees. The woods here take expression “tree lined fairways” to another level. Keeping it in play and in the fairway will certainly reward your score

8- On the ocean resorts learn to play the wind, there can be more then a two-club difference.Check the top of the trees to get a good idea on the wind strength and direction in order to make the proper club and selection

9- All turfs are strains of Bermuda grasses and the grain generally grows the setting sun. If you are accustomed to the northern grasses, you will find that all grasses have a less break and are not as fast, and more grain. If you have trouble reading the break, there’s probably none

Ask the course professional for tips on the local course particularities that will have you adjust to course conditions

10- Local golfers are very friendly and enjoy meeting and playing with visitors many like lasting friendships have originated from a starter joining a single with a threesome; so don’t worry about going solo. The hospitality and friendliness of the Costa Rican people is well documented and this is especially true with golfers.
